The handsome Mr. Awan is from the Gianyar region of Bali, and is one of just a small handful of coin statue artisans in Bali. He started making coin statues when he was just a child, because his grandfather and his father were also coin statue makers. He can make any kind of statue using Chinese coins, like: Legong, Janger, Rama and Sita, Eagle, Sri and Saraswati Godesses, Buddha statue and other popular Balinese figures. These beautifully-crafted products will only be available for a short while longer, because there is a limited supply of the 100-year old Chinese coins used in their creation, which also explains why the coin statues are among the more costly and valuable items we at Bali Artisans’ Link Intl. (B-A-L-I) offer. After that, Awan will need to turn to other materials. Awan’s business goal is only to help his village by creating work opportunities for his fellow villagers. His hobby is playing the Balinese gamelan, a traditonal set of instruments made up of various shapes and sizes of metallic and wooden gongs.
